Sita Crafts encourages the creative talents of Tamil women living in Europe, in Sri Lanka’s tea plantations, and rural Indian villages.
MISSION

“Sita – legendary heroine and timeless ideal of womenhood”
NAME AND INSPIRATION
Our venture is named after Sita, the central female character of the age-old and world-famous Indian epic Ramayana. Sita, the daughter of a king, is esteemed as a paragon of spousal and feminine virtues for all Hindu women. She is respected for her dedication, self-sacrifice, courage and purity.

DREAMS COME TRUE
Training in Hand Embroidery
Most of our work in India is coordinated from Madurai, Tamil Nadu in the South of India, a city extremely rich in culture and history. The region is famous for its advanced agriculture and cultivation of organic cotton, which is later made into fabrics. Our women are experts in traditional Indian handicrafts and decorate them with high-quality embroidery.
We are also engaged in Sri Lanka which is culturally and historically closely connected to Tamil Nadu in South India. The island nation, despite its small size, has a rich and dense biodiversity and is famous for its tea plantations. In the heart of the island you will find the city of Kandy. Some of our clothes and accessories are made here by women of the tea plantation community under fair and sustainable conditions.
Last but not least, we wish to enable Tamil women living in Europe to join our crafting projects as well.
